Finding the motivation to work out these days, especially at home, might be trickier than ever. Sometimes you just need an extra pick-me-up to get you moving. That might come in the form of trying a new workout with a friend or something as simple as a reward for showing up for yourself even on the hard days. If you have been saying to yourself lately “I have no motivation to work out” then I want you to save this article.
Here are some of my top tips to help get you motivated to workout:
Take a class: Once you take a regular fitness class every week, you’ll see the same people frequently. This will help you feel more comfortable feeling as though you have a tribe at the gym. Keep returning to that same class, you’ll not only get closer to your fitness goal but be able to build relationships with those around you. n Enlist your friends: in a virtual workout class “happy hour”. Maintaining a fitness lifestyle is all about doing what you’d normally do, and replacing that time spent doing the unhealthy activity with a healthy one. So if spending time getting cocktails after work isn’t getting you the body you want, and making you feel worse, change it. Change the habit once and for all and have fun doing so.
Reward yourself: Every time you work out, drop a dollar in a jar. At the end of the month empty the jar, and get a mani-pedi, donate the money, do whatever you’d like with the money to make you happy. Maybe it’s a new water bottle or fun socks. Rewarding yourself for great behavior is a great way to keep up the excitement!
Look ahead: Always set fitness goals to work towards, whether it’s physical goals, weight loss or body fat drop, or a specific mile time. When we achieve important goals in front of us, we feel accomplished and want to do the task at hand.
Buy a new piece of gear: Even if you are just working out in your living room where no one else can see you, it can be a major confidence boost to look great while doing it! Buying a new piece of workout gear that you love can help get you in the mood to workout and you might even want to share a pic on the gram after to inspire your friends. This can be anything from a new pair of Lulu Yoga pants to a pair of sneakers like the Altra multi-sport Solstice XT running shoes I spoke about in Business Insider or ASICS Kayano I recommended on CNET.
Hire a trainer: When you hire a personal trainer, you can get your workouts tailored specifically for you, have someone by your side to help you reach your goals, and have a cheerleader who is invested in your success! ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
