Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness or simply looking for a fun way to spend time with friends, San Mateo has plenty of options to choose from.
- The Hillsdale Challenge: A 3.2-mile run through the Hillsdale neighborhood, starting and ending at Hillsdale High School. It’s a great way to explore the city, challenge yourself and enjoy a group activity with friends.
- The San Mateo Bridge Run: This 5K race starts in Foster City and goes over the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge. It’s a great way to challenge yourself and enjoy the beautiful Bay Area views.
- The San Mateo Triathlon: A sprint-distance triathlon that includes a half-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride, and a 3-mile run. It’s a great way to test your fitness, enjoy the outdoors and motivate yourself and friends to push harder.
- The Bay Trail Challenge: A challenge to hike all the trails of the Bay Trail in San Mateo. It’s a great way to explore the beautiful Bay Area, get active, and have fun with friends. The Bay Trail is a 500-mile trail that winds around the San Francisco Bay and there are many sections in San Mateo that can be tackled.
- The Monkey Bars Challenge: A challenge to complete a set of monkey bars in a local playground. Monkey bars are a great way to work on upper body strength and coordination, and they’re also a fun and unique way to challenge yourself and your friends. You can find monkey bars at many of the parks and playgrounds in San Mateo such as Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Park, Central Park, or Hillsdale Park.
